I would imagine the kit + a kilo of sugar + the under-pitching with their weak-ass ale yeast fermented at 24c would make a VERY ordinary brew. Drinkable, but not something i would want to recreate. Would probably benefit greatly from better yeast and better fermentables. Edwards Essences – Edwards Essences – Spirit Essences. Quality spirit essences to make 3.5L of finished product.
Used kit yeast and fermented for 7 days at 20c then kegged. This has come out as a surprisingly good beer. Nice creamy head and a hint of honey flavour that is getting stronger as it matures. Not the best I've had but certainly worth doing again for the money. Kit was brewed with Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 [500g Dextrose, 250 each of Maltodextrin & Light Dried malt Extract] and 10g Cluster hops simmered for 10 minutes. Fermented with kit yeast at 18-20'C, and after 3 weeks has become a nice drinkable brew.
Second big improver was a fistful of aromatic hops. Have tried Cascade and Goldings from 15g to 60g and depending on personal preference for hops makes a big difference. The kit alone gets a 2, but with help it's capable of 4 star brews. My first kit brewed with the 1kg brewiser liquid sugar that also came with it and the kit yeast. Primed and bottled, 9 weeks later it has a very thin head, light carbonation and an unusual but not unpleasant taste.
Not bad at all in my opinion, and if you're a fan of Tooheys New then this is the place to start - easy, cheap & very drinkable. If this kit isn't treated well it will be ordinary, so be warned! A complete set of quality brewer's equipment and specialised ingredients to get you brewing today! Toohey's draft with 500g liquid malt, 750g Dextrose, 250g Corn syrup and the standard yeast is still insipid until about 3 months. However, it improves greatly with good yeast. Recultured Cooper's yeast makes a big difference.

Now the master brewers have found another way to extend the pride and pleasure they have in their work to you - home brew. Made with some of the same ingredients and all the patience and expertise that go into their famous beers. Real beer makers make real beer kits. Run of the mill boring kit beer similar to homebrand in my opinion. Would be nicer if adding malts and hops. The result was a good, simple ale that couldn't be faulted too much.
